New ‘Doctor Who’ Teaser Will Leave You Wanting More

We always need a Doctor.

BBC has released the first teaser trailer for season 8 of Doctor Who along with a silhouette of Peter Capaldi inside the exploding Tardis. A simple, 15-second teaser it was, ending in the words “The Doctor will land this August”.

Peter Capaldi as the Doctor

Capaldi made his first Doctor Who appearance in 2008 in the David Tennant episode The Fires of Pompeii as the character Caecilius, but didn’t make his debut as the Doctor until the 50th Anniversary Special, Day of the Doctor, seen as only a pair of eyes. Then it finally happened, after Matt Smith’s tearful goodbye in the Christmas special, Time of the Doctor, Capaldi emerged from the regeneration asking “do you happen to know how to fly this thing?”

“It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it has been absolutely fantastic in its own way,” Capaldi said in the live BBC special Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor. “Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege.”

As well as parting words from Matt Smith via video, “I just want to wish my successor all the best and good on you for getting it. I think it’s a really canny choice. Good luck, man. It’s going to be a thrill.”

It was also revealed that Jenna Coleman will be returning as Clara Oswald alongside Capaldi.

As for what adventures are in store for Capaldi, only time can tell, but odds are this isn’t the last teaser we’ll be seeing featuring the new Doctor in action.
