In 2005, Psychonauts was released by Double Fine Productions, headed by Tim Schafer. Following the game’s release, it received numerous accolades and awards including Eurogamer’s: “Overall Game of the Year 2005”. Double Fine is now attempting to make a sequel and have partnered with Fig.co to crowdfund the development of Psychonauts 2.

The original game is an adventure platformer, giving the player control of Raz, a trainee at the Psychonauts training camp. Using his various psychic powers such as telekinesis, pyrokinesis, and more, the player is able to explore the camp in both the real world and a number of dream worlds.  This allows them to help characters with their “emotional baggage”.

The world of Pyschonauts is filled with brilliant, psychedelic art, rambunctious humor, and a story that will keep you enthralled for the duration of the game. According to his video about the campaign, Schafer promises Psychonauts 2 to be more of the same.

So far, the campaign has over $2 million funded, over half of their $3.3 million goal with over thirteen-thousand backers. Sales for the original Psychonauts, published by Majesco, reached roughly four-hundred thousand units. When the publishing deal expired, Double Fine acquired the rights and re-released it on Steam and Humble Bundle in 2010. Since then, over 1.2 million copies were sold through 2015.
