Superman to appear on Supergirl’s second season No casting announced yet for the role, some fans request Smallville's Tom Welling

Supergirl Superman

On Monday June 6, it was announced that Superman will be flying down to National City for the start of Supergirl’s second season.
The viewers of the show have always known that The Man of Steel was around but never got a clear glimpse of him in action. Superman was shown in the first episode of the show with his face obscured by the sun. A young version of him, played by Daniel DiMaggi, appeared in the first season.

The role has yet to be cast but Executive Producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, and Andrew Kreisberg are excited to bring in the iconic character.

“Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” said Kreisberg in a statement. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

While the first season of Supergirl was on CBS, as previously reported, the second season will move to The CW. It will be joining the rest of the network’s DC superhero lineup including Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. A four part crossover with all of these shows has been announced and The Flash has already made one visit to Supergirl in Supergirl’s first season.

This will be the second time Superman and Supergirl have appeared together on The CW. Both characters were featured in the network’s hit show Smallville, which was about a young Clark Kent before he put the cape on. There has been no indication that this version of Superman will be affected by Smallville or Henry Cavill’s performance in the current DC Movies but that has not deterred fans. Some fans have already started pushing for Tom Welling, Smallville’s Clark Kent, to reprise the roll on Supergirl. Welling has addressed the idea but he is unsure if it would make sense for him to play the part again.

“Well, on Smallville we had the Supergirl character, and in her own way,” said Welling to the Examinor. “I think “Supergirl” the television show would probably have to have their own Clark Kent character in their own way. Their tone is different than what we did. I don’t know it’s set at the exact same time. I think it’s more modern than “Smallville” was. So, I don’t think the crossover could be a direct correlation, if you know what I mean.”

The second season of Supergirl will air Mondays at 8:00 on The CW.
