The Avengers Project

The internet launched into a fervor on Thursday after Square Enix and Marvel announced a multi-year, multi-game partnership along with a teaser video for The Avengers Project.

According to the official blog post on the Square Enix website, The Avengers Project is an effort made in conjuncture with developers Crystal Dynamics, veteran developers behind the Tomb Raider series, and Eidos Montréal, revered Deus Ex games.

“By partnering with Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal, we are now working with two of the industry’s most talented and respected game development studios to bring Marvel stories to life in ways our fans have never experienced,“ stated Jay Ong, Senior Vice President, Games & Innovation at Marvel Entertainment.

As stated in the post, “The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.”

“It’s exciting to bring together Square Enix’s award-winning development studios with Marvel’s extraordinary storytellers to establish a new entertainment powerhouse.  This collaboration of passion and talent will craft epic, imaginative experiences allowing gamers to live out their Super Hero dreams like never before,” said Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Americas and Europe branch.

This announcement comes off the heels of other Marvel game projects such as the Guardians of the Galaxy game being developed by Telltale, and the new Spider-Man game coming from Ratchet & Clank developers Insomniac Games.

For now, fans have taken to social media using the tag #Reassemble, engaging in fevered discussions of theories and speculations. As of now, it is unknown what kind of game The Avengers Project will be, but according to both companies, there will be more information to come in 2018.
