CW’s Supergirl finds its Superman Former 7th Heaven and Teen Wolf star cast in second season of Supergirl

Superman on Supergirl CBS

On Thursday June 16, it was announced that Tyler Hoechlin will be playing Superman/Clark Kent in the upcoming second season of Supergirl.

As previously reported, Superman will appear in the first two episodes of the second season. He was present in the first season but never appeared fully. The character had contact with his cousin but every time he showed up the audience never got a good look at his face, with the exception of a younger version of him played by Daniel DiMaggi. This will be a big change for the show to go along with its network change from CBS to The CW.

Executive Producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are excited to have Hoechlin joining the cast of Supergirl and feel that he is the perfect actor to take on the role of The Man of Steel.

“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said Kreisberg in a statement.  “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

Hoechlin is no stranger to the world of comic book adaptations. His first major film role was playing Tom Hanks’s son in Road to Perdition, which is a film version of Max Allan Collins’s graphic novel of the same name. He was only 14 years old at the time. This will also not be Hoechlin’s first time on The CW as he is also well known for having a main role on The WB/The CW show 7th Heaven as Martin Brewer. He may be better known in recent years for his main role as Derek Hale in the first four seasons of MTV’s Teen Wolf. He left the show to film the Richard Linklater film Everybody Wants Some!! which was released in March of 2016. He is in the upcoming film Stratton: First Into Action, which is coming out later this year, and Fifty Shades Darker, which comes out next year.

The second season of Supergirl will air Mondays at 8:00 on The CW starting this fall.
